WSP: Driver stopped for doing 105 mph on the way to the outlet mall | 911
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Lots of folks are in a real hurry this holiday season, but at least one driver on I-5 this morning is paying the price for rushing a little too fast on his way to the mall.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary tells KOMO News he was sitting on the right shoulder of I-5 earlier today in a fully marked patrol car when a BMW SUV sped by him at 105 miles per hour.
“He did not slow until he approached traffic about two miles ahead where he made multiple unsafe lane changes cutting off cars and not signaling, along with following to close behind cars less than a half car length,” said Leary.
When Leary says he finally got the driver to pull over and asked him where he was going in such a hurry the driver said 'the outlet mall in Marysville.'
Leary wrote the man, who had three passengers in the SUV with him, a $550 ticket for negligent driving.
“That’s money he could have used at the outlet mall,” said Leary. “If he would have crashed at that speed the injuries would have been significant or fatal I am sure.”
Leary said he stopped several other drivers this morning who’s speed he clocked in the 80’s and 90’s.
“This is way too fast, especially in the rain,” said Trooper Leary. Even if all you’re trying to do is beat the crowd to the mall.
